Alex De Saint races to Alaska against plastic

an epic DOCUMENTARY about human potential.

This is the story of Alex De Saint, a dutch all round extreme sportsman, former dj and outdoor junkie. He will race the R2AK, 790 cold water miles from Port Townsend, Washington, to Ketchikan, Alaska.
No motor, no support, on a SUP, with a chance of drowning, being run down by a freighter, or eaten by a grizzly bear.
There are squalls, killer whales, tidal currents that run upwards of 20 knots an hour, and some of the most beautiful scenery on earth, right in front of the biggest garbage patch in the world.
With over 5 trillion pieces of plastic currently littering the ocean and the plague of climate change, Alex wants to increase the awareness on planet conservation, racing to be the first man to have accomplished all the categories on ultra long distance races and the first man to have done the R2AK on an inflatable SUP.

Everything is impossible until it’s done.

After his mandatory service with the Dutch Army Special Forces for two years, which trained him to be a survivor in many aspects of life, he was a surf team rider for several big brands. After a serious injury at his back in Portugal he had to say goodbye to surfing. Whilst in South Africa he was introduced to the sport of stand up paddle boarding and fell instantly in love.

In 2016 he did his first long distance Stand Up paddling in the SUP 11 city tour, 220 km race over 5 days. In 2017 he did the SUP 11 city tour twice, the nonstop and the 5-days, with extreme Dutch weather and this meant I was only the second person to achieve this but also planted a seed for more. The 220km non-stop and the 5-days tour became a 440KM race in total. After the 2017 Sup 11 city tour I was approached by Joanne Hamilton-Vale to join her team to participate in the Yukon 1000:  ‘No one yet has paddled the Yukon River Quest and the Yukon 1000 in the same year’ immediately his new goal was set and later achieved in 2018.

With the Race2Alaska, Alex runs to be the first man to have accomplished the race on an inflatable SUP.
